In Buenos Aires, Obama aims to boost Argentina’s new leader

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — After years of anti-American posturing by its leader, Argentina has a new president whose outstretched hand has been eagerly accepted by the United States. President Barack Obama will reward the South American nation on Wednesday with a state visit aimed at keeping that promising trajectory on track. Obama has made no secret of his preference for Argentine President Mauricio Macri over his left-leaning predecessor, Cristina Fernandez, whose meandering missives were a source of frequent frustration and eye-rolling in the White House. Brussels attacks could alter Apple-FBI battle

SAN FRANCISCO — The government blinked in its fight with Apple over the San Bernardino iPhone. But this landmark privacy battle is far from over, say legal experts, especially with public opinion likely to swing again toward national security after the latest terrorist attacks in Belgium. “It’s another turn in a long road,” says associate professor Mark Grabowski, who teaches Internet law at Adelphi University in New York. “Maybe they find out how to unlock the iPhone, but there is a broader goal (accessing data) beyond this case.” The DepartmentRead More

S.Korea and American allies face ‘miserable end’, says N.Korea

North Korea threatened a “miserable end” for South Korea’s president and her American allies on Wednesday, in its latest colourfully worded attack. Pyongyang declared it would wage a “retaliatory battle of justice” against Park Geun-Hye, with its artillery units standing ready to turn her office into a “sea of flames and ashes”. “What the DPRK warns is not hot air. It will be clearly proved by the miserable end the US and the Park group will meet while going reckless,” said the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK),Read More

Belgium bombings raise security alerts at U.S. airports

NEW YORK, March 22 (Reuters) – Major U.S. transportation hubs were placed on alert on Tuesday and Denver International Airport briefly evacuated part of its main terminal in a false alarm there hours after suicide bombings in Brussels killed at least 30 people. Despite public safety concerns unleashed by the violence in Belgium’s capital, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said the agency had no intelligence that would point to a similar attack being plotted against the United States. But the State Department issued a travel alert warning U.S. citizensRead More
